What Does a CAD Agent Actually See?
Show a machined part to a vision model and it will describe it fluently. Ask it which face to edit and the fluency stops. A CAD agent has to connect what it sees to the entities it can act on — and that link has to be built, not assumed.

The Harness
AI changed how software gets written and changed nothing about how parts get designed. The difference is not the models — it is that software already had the environment, and mechanical engineering has to build one.

Geometry as Code
A CAD file is a program you cannot read, diff or generate. An agent needs a handle on geometry, and code is the only one there is — and the objection that kept it out of mechanical engineering for thirty years has just disappeared.
